We are planning to release an update to our apps in February 2022 (this will be version 7.7.0 for DoodleMaths, 4.7.0 for DoodleEnglish and 2.7.0 for DoodleEnglish and DoodleSpell).
This update will allow us to much more effectively optimise the Doodle programmes, for example improving speed and performance, and reducing app size. It will also allow us to begin making use of the latest developments in graphical engines and build tools, meaning lots more exciting possibilities for our questions!
This release will affect the minimum Apple operating system able to run Doodle. After the update, the minimum operating systems able to run the Doodle programmes will be:
iOS - iOS 11 or higher (currently iOS 10)
Android - OS 4.4 or later (unchanged)
WebGL - Firefox 52+ Chrome 57+, Safari 11+, Edge 16+ (unchanged)
Please ensure that all devices are updated to these operating systems ahead of the release, in order to ensure that users can continue Doodling after the update. In order to update your operating system on your iPhone/iPad please follow these steps on your device:
Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update
If you see two software update options available, choose the one that you want to install.
Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now.
Most devices which are running iOS 10 can simply be updated to iOS 11; however, there are a small number of devices which are able to run iOS 10 but not iOS 11. These are:
iPad 4th gen
As Apple have stopped providing security updates for iOS 10 and it is no longer secure to run this operating system, these devices will not be able to run the Doodle programmes after the update.
We have run the figures, and 0.65% of our users last used Doodle on a device running iOS 10. As many of these devices will simply be able to be updated, and the last 5 devices used for the majority of these users also include a different device, we hope that users will have an easy solution.
As Doodle can be used on PCs and laptops, Chromebooks, tablets, and even smartphones, there are lots of options for access.
If you have any questions regarding this, please do let us know via the green chat bubble and we will be happy to help.
