Users can access the Tools feature while answering questions in DoodleMaths and DoodleEnglish. These tools support learning by helping users work through questions more independently. To access them, simply tap on the arrow in the bottom left-hand corner and select 'Tools'.
Tools sidebar
The tools sidebar includes the following features:
Pen tool - Tap once to activate and again to deactivate. Use it to write or draw directly on the screen.
Rubber - Tap once to turn it on and again to turn it off. Use it to erase marks made with the pen tool.
Magnifying glass - Tap to zoom in on the screen and tap again to turn it off. You can use this alongside either the pen or rubber tool.
Return to the previous screen - Quickly go back to the previous screen, whether that's the question screen or the last tool you were using.
Tool menu (Arrow Icon) - Tap the arrow in the bottom left-hand corner to open the full selection of tools.
Tapping on each tool will show a preview, along with an information button that explains how to use it. When you're ready, press 'Let's go' to open the tool and start using it.
DoodlePad
The DoodlePad lets users jot down workings or notes directly on the question screen. To access it, tap the pencil icon. A toggle in the bottom right-hand corner allows users to show or hide the question beneath the DoodlePad, depending on their preference.
Multiplication Square
The multiplication square is a widely used resource in primary schools. It helps learners build confidence with multiplication and division facts, as well as identifying multiples and factors.
Change the size
Tap 10x or 12x to adjust the size of the multiplication square. This allows users to focus on the times tables most relevant to their age or learning stage.
Factor Reveal
In no colour mode, tapping a white number reveals its factors. Users can tap or drag to a different number, and the factors will update automatically.
Colour Change
Tap a colour, then select a white number to change its colour. Dragging allow multiple numbers to be coloured at once. Each colour is paired with a unique pattern, providing a non-colour-based way to identify selections - ideal for users with colour vision difficulties.
Square Numbers
Tap the 'x' icon in the corner of the multiplication square to highlight all square numbers.
Zoom and Pan
This functionality is especially helpful for users on smaller screens - such as when a child is Doodling on a phone. Even when zoomed in, all the functions of the multiplication square remain fully accessible.
+ allows users to zoom in
- allows users to zoom out
When zoomed in, users can navigate the multiplication square using the arrow buttons to move left, right, up, or down. Holding down an arrow allows for faster movement in that direction, making it easier to explore the square on smaller screens.
Multiple reveal
Users can also tap on any of the green numbers around the outside to highlight whole rows and columns. This is useful for looking at multiples of a particular number. More than one row or column can be highlighted at once. Tapping a highlighted row or column again will remove the highlight.
Clear all
The Clear all button removes all colour and highlight from the multiplication square. The zoom and size of the multiplication square will remain unaffected.
