Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty that primarily affects the skills involved in accurate and fluent word reading and spelling. It can present daily barriers in education, therefore identification and intervention can help children with confidence and self-esteem.

Our apps have been designed to support children with dyslexia, our different exercises do this is a variety of ways.

1. Structured and Sequential Learning

Our “New This Week” and "Assignment" exercises are broken down into small, manageable steps. Each lesson follows a consistent format, helping children build on what they already know and feel comfortable with the routine.

Why this helps:

  • Learning follows a logical order

  • Small steps fill in gaps and prevent new ones

  • Predictability builds confidence and reduces anxiety

2. Cumulative Learning

We make sure new learning builds on what’s already been taught. Lessons gently progress in difficulty, and we remind children of previous learning to help them connect ideas.

Why this helps:

  • Strengthens memory by linking ideas

  • Boosts confidence through familiarity

  • Reduces mental overload

3. Multi-Sensory Learning

Our apps encourage children to use more than one sense at a time. This includes:

  • Audio: Questions and text are read aloud

  • Visuals: Images and diagrams support understanding

  • DoodlePad: Children can write, draw, and work out answers on screen

  • Interactive elements: Tap, swipe, and move items to engage with questions

Why this helps:

  • Improves memory and retention

  • Makes learning more engaging

  • Builds motivation and enjoyment

4. Overlearning Through Practice

We reinforce learning by repeating key concepts in different ways. Children see similar questions with slight variations to help deepen understanding.

Why this helps:

  • Strengthens memory

  • Builds automatic recall

  • Helps apply knowledge in new situations

5. Encouraging Metacognition

Metacognition means understanding how we learn. Our apps support this by:

  • Asking children how confident they feel with exercises

  • Using characters to model thinking and learning strategies

Why this helps:

  • Helps children feel more in control of their learning

  • Encourages reflection and self-awareness

  • Builds self-esteem

6. Phonics-Based Spelling Support (DoodleSpell)

DoodleSpell uses phonics to help children improve spelling and reading. It includes:

  • Multi-sensory activities (visual, auditory, kinaesthetic)

  • Sound-symbol matching

  • Spelling words with phonics units

  • Teaching strategies like segmenting, rhyming, and pattern spotting

Why this helps:

  • Targets core challenges in dyslexia

  • Improves reading fluency and confidence

  • Supports spelling, reading, and writing skills

Accessibility Features

To make our apps even more inclusive, we offer a variety of additional features:

  • Coloured overlays for question screens, which can help some children with dyslexia

  • Other accessibility tools designed to make learning easier and more comfortable. You can explore more about our accessibility features here.
