Intervention groups are a powerful way to provide targeted support for learners who need extra help. Whether it’s closing gaps, boosting confidence, or reinforcing key skills, DoodleLearning makes running interventions simple, effective, and engaging.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to setting up intervention groups in DoodleLearning—and why it’s such a great tool for schools.

✅ Why Use DoodleLearning for Interventions?

DoodleLearning is built on adaptive technology and evidence-based principles, making it ideal for personalised intervention:

  • Adaptive learning: Our algorithm, Proxima™, creates a unique work programme for each child based on their baseline assessment.

  • Personalised support: Doodle revisits misconceptions and only moves learners forward when they’re ready.

  • Inclusive design: Supports learners with dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, and other needs.

  • Engaging and low-pressure: Gamified elements motivate learners without overwhelming them.

🛠 Step-by-Step: How to Set Up an Intervention Group

1. Identify Learners Who Need Support

Use school assessment data, teacher observations, or Doodle’s analytics to find children who would benefit from extra help.

Top tip: Look for learners below age-related expectations or those showing low confidence.

2. Create a Group in DoodleLearning

You can create custom groups in the Teacher Dashboard to monitor progress and assign work.

How to do it:

  • Go to Manage > Classes

  • Tap Add Class, select a year group, and name your group

  • Press Save

  • Edit the class by selecting the pencil icon and add students by typing their names

  • Press Save Changes

Why this helps: You can separate intervention groups for targeted assignments and easy tracking.

There is no limit to the number of classes/groups that a child can placed in.

3. Assign Targeted Work

Use Assignments to set specific topics for your intervention group. These can be curriculum-aligned or based on gaps identified in Doodle’s analytics.

Top tip: Start with foundational skills and gradually increase complexity.

4. Schedule Regular Sessions

Plan short, focused sessions—15–20 minutes—several times a week. These can be during morning work, guided group time, or after school.

Top tip: Keep sessions consistent and positive. Celebrate small wins to build confidence!

5. Monitor Progress and Adjust

Use Work Programmes > View Understanding to see gaps and misconceptions. You can:

  • View curriculum understanding for each student

  • Expand AREs (Age-Related Expectations) for deeper insight

  • Spot Tricky Questions (marked with an exclamation point) for discussion

Why this helps: Data-driven insights allow you to refine groupings and assignments.

⭐ Why It Works

DoodleLearning supports intervention in a way that’s:

  • Low-pressure: Children work at their own pace

  • Highly engaging: Gamified features keep learners motivated

  • Evidence-based: Built on cognitive science and adaptive learning

  • Inclusive: Supports diverse learning needs

By using DoodleLearning for interventions, you can deliver personalised support without adding to your workload—and help children feel successful, confident, and ready to progress.
