To support your child's learning or revise tricky topics, children, parents and teachers can add extra work in topics they'd like to practice a bit more. These are known as Assignments.
Assignments present a child with the first 15 questions within a particular curricular topic and introduce the topic using an interactive concept explanation. Completing an Assignment is therefore really useful in supporting a child in a particular area of the curriculum they may be struggling with or something they are currently learning about at school.
How to add an Assignment in the Learning Zone
Parents and children over the age of twelve can set themselves an Assignment from the Learning Zone in any of the Doodle programmes. To do this:
Log in to Doodle
From the Learning Zone, press the red Add Assignment icon
Type in a topic and follow the in-app instructions; the Assignment will then appear in the Learning Zone
It may be tricky for you to decide which Assignment to choose when allocating Assignments from the Learning Zone, however, there is a search bar and we recommend that you use your child's year in school as guidance or a specific topic to refine your search (for example, 'Year 4' or 'Fractions').
Please note:
Only one Assignment can be set through the app per day (if you would like to add more, please do so via the Parent Dashboard by following the steps below)
It will only be possible to add an Assignment in this way if no other Assignment is currently set.
To set an Assignment for a child under the age of twelve, please enter your parent password after pressing the Add Assignment icon.
How to add an Assignment in the Parent Dashboard
Parents can add Assignments from the Parent Dashboard. To do this:
Log in to the Parent Dashboard
Hover over Assignments and select Set
Toggle between the programme icons to select whether you'd like to set an Assignment in DoodleMaths, DoodleTables, DoodleEnglish or DoodleSpell. Please view this article on how to do this.
Search for a topic or scroll through the relevant AREs (Age Related Expectations or topics they are expected to learn at this age)
Click on the grey arrow to the left of the ARE to break this down further
You can view the questions as they will appear within the app by clicking on Preview - this is great for checking that the Assignment is appropriate for your child
When you are ready to set an Assignment press Add
Select when you'd like the Assignment to appear in their work programme and which children you'd like it to appear for and press Add
The red Assignment will appear in your child's Learning Zone on the specified day
Please note:
It is only possible to add up to 5 Assignments to your child's work programme - the reason for this is that Assignments should be used alongside your child's x-a-day activity as this is personalised to their individual needs and will contribute to their progress through the programme.
If your child has a school subscription in addition to a home subscription, the Assignments your child's class teacher sets will be given precedence over any Assignments added through the parent dashboard. If a teacher has already added 5 Assignments, you will not be able to set any further assignments until one or more of the school Assignments have been completed.
Best practice for use of Assignments
We suggest the following practice when using the Assignments feature of Doodle:
Using Assignments in addition to a child's main work programme
Setting one/two Assignments per week
Previewing the questions before setting for a child as Assignments require an accuracy of 75% or more otherwise they have to be repeated
